Vernon "Leroy" Walker, 51, Kokomo, passed away at 11:52 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at his residence.

He was born June 28, 1959, in Kokomo, the son of Frank David and Graylon (Bolton) Walker.

On March 18, 2010, he married Dorothy M. Smith and she survives.

He received his GED in 1980 and had attended IVY Tech in Kokomo, studying architectural engineering and carpentry. From 1980-1983, he served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, 1st Battalion, and 501st Infantry Division.

He had been employed at Windsor Estates Health Care Center and his memberships include the VFW 1152 and Outcast Thursday Night Bowling League at Don Lowry Lanes. He loved NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs, Colts and the Tennessee Vols. Most of all he enjoyed watching his brothers play softball. He was known for his love for the outdoors, hunting, cook-outs and fishing. His family brought him his greatest joy.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Brandon Leroy Walker and wife Rachael, Michael J. Smith and Zane E. Hollowman, all of Kokomo; two daughters, Jennifer Castillo, Austin, Texas; Bonnie Mae Smith and her companion, P.J. Abney, Kokomo; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Victor L. Walker and wife Kimberly S., Scott Walker and wife Sandy, David S. Walker, Michael Walker and wife Nanette, all of Kokomo; two sisters, Rose R. LeJeune, Knoxville, Tenn.; and Ava D. Walker and husband James Lowe Jr., Kokomo; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lennis P. Walker.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Lynn Brust and Pastor Brad Swain officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the VFW Military Rites Teams. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Leroy's name to assist the family with final expenses.
