Pastor John R. Turley, 94, Kokomo, went to his heavenly home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1915, to Lewis Carl and Alice Catherine (Kelly) Turley. On Nov. 25, 1947, he married Charlene Davis, who preceded him in death in 1984. Later he married Marie Knauff, who preceded him in death in 2009.
John was a Brethren minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over 60 years and a member of Fair Havens Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He loved to share the gift of song with others by singing "This World Is Not My Home," "Some Golden Daybreak" and "Only Jesus Can Satisfy Your Soul." Pastor Turley loved to encourage others by saying "keep smiling!" His signature verse of Scripture was John 3:16 and 17. John also retired from Stellite.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca A. Greene and husband Ron; a son, Charles Thomas Turley; a daughter, Catherine Sue Uttinger and husband Terry; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Carl Turley; a brother, Carl Justin Turley; a sister, Martha Mae Werbe; and a very special niece, Ginny (Werbe) Fisher.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Fair Havens Christian Missionary Alliance Church with Pastors John Zwirn and Jeff Russell officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
