The Wildkats varsity boys’ soccer team traveled to county rival Western and came up short, falling 3-0 to the Panthers to open the 2019 season.
From the opening whistle, it looked like the Wildkats would seize momentum, creating several chances, the best of which was senior midfielder Guilherme Miranda’s left-footed laser from 20 yards out which hit the top corner of the goal. Moments later, senior forward Anjelo Flores had a close-range shot turned away by the Panther net minder, and the Panthers countered to enter the half up 1-0. After the half, the Wildkats regrouped and were able to put a few more shots on frame before two more goals in the 29th and 22nd minute put the match out of reach.
The Wildkats will face Muncie Central at home tomorrow at 11 a.m.
