The VolleyKats traveled to Russiaville last night to face the Lady Panthers of Western in the first match of the season.

The Lady Kats fell short 0-3 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15). Western pressured Kokomo with its serving all match long, and the Lady Kats were not able to keep the ball in play long enough to capture momentum and score points in bunches.

Malori Nichols led the attack with six kills and three blocks. Mae Brandon added four kills and nine digs from the outside hitter position. Jada Moore and Jannessa Reece both downed two kills with Reece digging up six balls on defense. Setter Correll Heath passed out 14 assists and had 15 digs, and libero Jada-Claire Broomfield saved 17 rallies with digs.

Kokomo will get back to work and welcome eight other teams to KHS for the Kokomo Invitational this Saturday. With four matches on the docket, the Lady Kats will get a chance to improve and find the best lineup. Play begins at 9 a.m.
