The Lady Kats cross country team ran in the Northwestern Combination meet on a hot and humid evening last night. The Lady Kats gained valuable experience at its first cross country meet of the season, finishing sixth out of seven teams. This race was 3K in length.
Kokomo's top finisher was sophomore Julynne Spidell with a time of 11:21 finishing in first place in the “one and two” race. One of the two other standout performances was junior Jaylee Copeland, finishing 11th in the “one and two” race. If she continues to stay focused and dedicated, she might have a chance to advance to the regional meet individually, according to coaches.
Freshman Kaileigh Jones also had a strong race, finishing 15th in the “five, six, seven plus” race with a time of 16:28. Jones grinded through a few tough portions of the race and put herself in position to pass a few girls over the last 400 meters for a strong finish to her first high school race.
The remaining finishers in the “three and four” race for Kokomo were Kylie Lewis in 12th with a time of 17:15 and Emma Nelson in 14th with a time of 17:58. In the “five, six, seven plus” race, Eva Gonzales finished in 20th place with a time of 17:43, Gadea Castano in 25th place with a time of 18:38, and Tamily Baroni in 28th place with a time of 19:04.
The Lady Wildkats will be running its first 5K of the season in the Berry Patch at Logansport in the invite this Saturday at 9 a.m.
