The 2019 RSC Women's Soccer Preseason poll was released for the inaugural IU Kokomo Women's Soccer season.
The Cougars were picked 10th among the 11 teams in the River States Conference. The coaches of the RSC voted based on previous season success, player personnel changes, and the incoming class.
Asbury (Ky.) University was selected as the top team for this year.
Asbury won the RSC Championship last year posting a record of 10-8-2 overall and 6-2-1 RSC. The Eagles went on to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round after finishing second in the RSC regular season. Asbury received 91 total votes in the preseason poll and five of the 11 first-place votes.
Certain to be a strong rivalry for the Cougars, IU East was picked second this preseason with 82 votes and four first-place votes as they enter just their third season of play. The Red Wolves had the best overall record in the conference last year at 12-4-4 and made it to the RSC finals last year. They were edged out by Asbury on penalty kicks, 7-6, after the game ended, 0-0, including two overtimes.
The Cougars will kick off their inaugural season on Aug. 28 at home against Huntington University at 7 p.m. Their first RSC match takes place in Pittsburgh, Penn., as they travel to Point Park University on Sept. 26.
