The Eastern junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams took on the Mississinewa Indians last night at home.
The JV Comets fell short in two sets (11-25, 21-25) for their season opener. They struggled to settle their nerves in the first set, but bounced back more confident in the second set. Neely McKnight had four kills, one block kill, six serve receptions, and one dig. Makenna Titus had three kills, five serve receptions, five service points, and nine digs. Trista Rice had six serve receptions and six digs. Jenna Smith had eight assists and three service points. Allison Delgado had one kill, four serve receptions, and two digs. Mallory Sabo had three serve receptions and two digs.
Great start to the season for the varsity Comets with a win over the Indians 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 25-15). Loralei Evans led with 20 kills, 7 blocks, 13 serve receptions, and six digs. Allie Bratcher added 13 kills. Grace Kuhlman led the backrow with 10 service points, five aces, 25 serve receptions, and 34 digs. Kaylee Weeks added 13 service points, 12 serve receptions, and five digs. Emma Sandlin finished with 36 assists, eight digs, and nine service points.
The Comets play again tonight at home against Southwood at 6 p.m.
