Margaret Joan Tarkington, 95, Kokomo, passed away at 3:05 am Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo. She was born August 29, 1923, in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Dr. Chauncey “CJ” & Aurora (Taylor) Huffy. Joan married Joe M. Tarkington in 1945, who preceded her in death on June 4, 1985.
Joan graduated from Burlington High School in 1941, and went on to graduate from Indiana Business College. She worked for several years at the Indiana Employment Office. Joan was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, and Green Acres Golf Course, where she enjoyed playing golf. Joan was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will always be remembered by her family as an: avid golfer and card player; loved reading books and completing crossword puzzles; enjoyed walks in the woods and on the beach; and all sports.
Her legacy will always remain in the strength of the family that she has created, the love of nature she has instilled, the unfaltering love and faithful friendship she has always demonstrated.
Joan is survived by her children, William (Susan) Tarkington, Kokomo, and Becky (Jeff) Radabaugh, Westfield; grandchildren, Matthew (Margaret) Tarkington, Elizabeth Ennis, Katie (Lane) Radabaugh-Benziger, J.B. (Shannon) Radabaugh, and Sarah (Kaleb) Wagoner, along with 13 great-grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Joyce Gates; and siblings, Maxine Snyder, Jane Wertz, Mary Elizabeth Young, William Huffy, and Betty Lyford.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Waterford Place Health Campus for their compassion and care they gave Joan and her family.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, July 19, 2019, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main Street, Russiaville, with Pastor Kim Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1-3 pm Friday at the funeral home.
