Gary Robert Henderson

Gary Robert Henderson passed away unexpectedly at 5:08 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis, after experiencing a massive stroke earlier in the week.  He was born January 20, 1953, in Tipton Memorial Hospital, to the late William D. Henderson and Joyce A. (Little) Henderson who survives.  On May 20, 1972, he married Jamey Kent, in Vincennes, and she survives.

Gary was a 1971 graduate of Tri-Central High School, and attended Vincennes University before graduating from Wayland Baptist University, with a Bachelor of Church Music.  Gary had recently created his own lawn-mowing service, “Father Mows Best,” upon retirement from his job as Facilities Manager with Crossroads Community Church in December 2018.  He had previously worked for Campbell Seed.

Gary was an active member of Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene, where he sang with the Celebration Choir and played trumpet for the Worship Team.  Gary was a member of the St. Marys Boat Club in St. Marys, Ohio, where he raced his 18’ Interlake and 23’ O’Day sailboats nearly every weekend May through September.  Gary and Jamey were avid travelers, enjoying yearly trips to Mackinac Island, and visited many places over the years, including both the east and west coasts of the U.S. as well as Germany, Austria, and the U.K.  Gary also participated in several mission trips, including Henderson Settlement in Kentucky, the Gulf Coast, Brazil, and South Africa.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jamey; children, Penny (Erik) Zakrzewski, Kelly (Jason) Moffit, and William Kent (Kelly) Henderson; grandchildren, Matt, Nathan, and Caelan Zakrzewski, Payton and Quinn Moffitt, and Scarlett and Dean Henderson; his mother, Joyce; and his sister, Cheryl (Larry) Myers.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Bill; nephew, Clint Myers; and granddaughter, Analise Irina Zakrzewski.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019, at the Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene, 2734 S. Washington St., with Pastor Gary Miller and Pastor Kevin Smith officiating, with an open house immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help offset final arrangements at or through Stout & Son Funeral Home.  Messages of condolence may be left online at
