Elbert A Welborn

Elbert Alton Welborn (Al) passed away May 23, 2019 at the age of 78. He was born March 7, 1941 in Clarksville, Ga to the late Odell and Myrtle Welborn. On Jan 1, 1960 he married the love of his life, Wanda (Dodd). She preceded him in passing. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. For most of his life he worked as a Contractor building and remodeling homes and businesses. He loved to work with is hands. He also loved fishing, hunting, boating, and camping and never missed listening to the Indy 500 during our first camping weekend at the lake. But he was just as happy being home with his family grilling out or having a campfire listening to WWKI and singing along with Conway or Merle. He was an amazing gardener and an expert at canning his harvest. Always doing his best to share his "mountain man" knowledge with everyone. He loved to build anything that could be imagined. He was always putting scraps together to build something unique and fantastic for his grandkids. He was a "jack of all trades". Above all else, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family and just be a silly Papaw. He was the strongest, smartest, toughest and bravest man his family ever knew. He will be dearly missed by his children Alton (Peggy) Welborn of Kokomo, Tammy (Robert Shoffner) Connor of Fishers, Maggie (Tim) Galloway of Pennington Gap, VA, Van (Greg) Welborn of Phoenix, AZ, and Steve (Chrissy) Welborn of Carmel. Grandchildren Travis Tinney, Brad Connor, Tony, James and Corbin Galloway, Alex and Antonio Welborn-Kinder, Sophia, Gabe, Layla, Madison and Jeweliana Welborn, Ashley and Olivia Slusher. Great-Grandchildern Alia, Braylen, Rylan, Gracey, Ian and Zayne. Siblings Albert Wilborn of Kokomo, Lucille Simmons of Clarksville, GA, and Hughes Welborn of Clarksville, Ga. As requested by Al, a private service was held with his children and grandchildren and cremation after. Ashes were laid at Albright Cemetary next to Wanda.
