Update: Pedestrians struck crossing the road

On October 13th, 2012 at approximately 10:22p.m., Officers of the Kokomo Police Department were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Dixon Road regarding two pedestrians struck by a vehicle.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 58-year-old Kokomo man and a 53-year-old Kokomo woman were attempting to cross the road in the 1500 block of South Dixon when they were struck by a Silver, Ford Mustang. The Ford Mustang was traveling south bound on Dixon Road and being driven by a 17-year-old male with two juvenile passengers in the vehicle.

The 58-year-old male victim suffered a traumatic injury to his left leg due to the accident. The 53-year-old female victim was unconscious at the scene. Both victims were transported to Saint Joseph Hospital in Kokomo and later airlifted via separate helicopters to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

The 58-year-old victim has been identified as Rudy A. Valadez. Valadez has died from injuries suffered from the accident.

The female victim has been identified as Leslie Houston. Houston is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Ford Mustang suffered minor injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was not drinking alcohol.
