Francine

L. Buckalew

On February 1, 2016 at 6:14 PM, at her home, surrounded by family and friends, Franny, 63, went to be with the Lord after her courageous battle with cancer.

Franny was the wife of Steven Buckalew, they shared 43 years of marriage together. Born in Kokomo, Franny was the daughter of Ralph and Mary Virginia Mills. She graduated Haworth High School, she retired from Eastern High School after 25 years of service as the Head Foodservice Director. She was also a member of the Greentown First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s activities, as well as, making noodles with her church family. She also enjoyed camping, cooking, gardening, planting flowers, knitting, and card making.

Franny is survived by her husband Steve Buckalew; son, Jason Buckalew; daughter, Cobi (husband Lance) Bower; grandchildren: Michaela and Alex Buckalew; grandpuppy, Tyson; sisters: Mary (husband Jeff) Williams, April (husband Jim) Daily; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Greg and a baby brother; sister, Deanna Norman.

Charles M. Baxter

Charles Mitchel Baxter of Tipton passed away on Monday February 1, 2016 in Kokomo, IN. He was born in Kentucky on August 26, 1935 to Perry and Sophie (Clancy) Baxter. Charles was married for 44 years to the late Sheila Rae Sorrell.

Charles and Sheila were blessed with five children, Gwen (Charlie) Wilburn of Tipton, Dirk (Michele) Baxter of Sharpsville, Mike (Debbie) Baxter of Converse, Chris (Tracy) Baxter of Hawley, MN and Destini (Jamie) Baxter-Nova of Seattle, WA along with 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his two sisters; Geneva Grishaw and Carolyn Young both of Tipton.

Charles was self-employed in his business, Baxter’s Plumbing and Heating, which he started in 1966. He took great care of his many Tipton area customers and sacrificed many hours of personal time, day and night, weekdays and weekends, to give his customers the best service that he could. He retired when his health would not permit him to continue to work.

Along with his parents, two brothers, George Baxter and Frank Baxter preceded him in death.

Fannie

J. Hershberger

Fannie J. Hershberger, 94, Greentown, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Century Villa Healthcare. She was born in Miami County Jan. 2, 1922, to Jonas and Amanda (Troyer) Eash.

Fannie was a homemaker and nanny for the Trip Demaree family. She was a member of Kokomo Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her children, Edna Day, Marion, Marie (James) Hershberger, Durango, Colorado, Mary (David) Mast, Colorado City, Colorado, Betty Hershberger, Kokomo, and Edwin (Nancy) Hershberger, Peru; sister, Emma Bontrager, Kokomo; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonas and Amanda Eash; sisters, Polly Miller and Dena Herschberger; and brother, Eli Eash.

Becky L. Dulworth

Becky Lee Dulworth, age 58, of Windfall, Indiana passed away on Thursday January 28, 2016 at Howard Community Hospital in Kokomo. She was born on May 10, 1957 in Greenfield, IN to Frank & Flo (Beers) Guffey. Becky married Larry Dulworth on September 22, 1979 in Windfall. They have been sweethearts since meeting in gym class in eighth grade.

Becky was very active in the Kokomo Senior Center in Kokomo where she enjoyed visiting and playing Bingo. She attended church at Windfall United Methodist Church for many years. Becky took delight in going to the casinos with Larry, watching her grandson play in his ball games, and helping others in any way that should could. She was someone that always went above and beyond for everyone; even if it meant putting others needs before her own, she was happy to do it. Becky loved spending time with her grandchildren and we rejoice knowing she is taking care of little Khloe.

She is survived by her husband Larry; children Thomas Dulworth of Kokomo and Bryan (Erin) Dulworth of Kokomo; grandson Grayson Dulworth of Kokomo; siblings Joann (Wayne) Booher of Windfall, Juanita (Bill) Schikora of Montana, Bonnie Roberts of Kokomo, Dotty (Wayne) Savage of Tennessee, Rebecca Hahn of Kokomo, Frank Edward (Edna) Guffey of Windfall, Minnie Hendrix of Kokomo, and Laura Clouser of Elwood along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter Khloe Dulworth.

Shelton Jr.

Danny Eugene Shelton Jr., 58, of Kokomo, passed away at 6:33 AM Sunday January 31, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital, Carmel. Born December 5, 1957 in Rensselaer, Indiana, he is the son of the late Danny Eugene Shelton Sr. and Ima Jean (Trusty) Shelton, who survives. He was a graduate of Haworth High School. On December 18, 1976 in Kokomo, he married Pennie Jane (Moeller), and she survives. He was employed at Haynes International for 35 years where he served in many capacities including shipping, a union steward, and most recently an inspector. He was a member of the steel workers union, ABATE, and supported United Way. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus, riding motorcycles, photography, videography. He was a softball fan who loved watching his granddaughter play. More recently he was a t-shirt designer.

He left an impact on anyone who knew him. He enjoyed being with people and would do anything for someone in need. His greatest loves were his family. They all adored him and he will be truly missed.

Survivors include his wife Pennie Jane Shelton of Kokomo; one son Danny “D.J.” (wife-Jessica) Shelton of Russiaville; two daughters Jessica (Samuel) “Dave” Stewart and Ashley (Gregory) Mund, both of Kokomo; mother and step-father Ima Jean and George Shelton of Burlington; two brothers Jim Shelton and Dennis Shelton, both of Bakers City, Oregon; step-brother Jonathan Shelton of Boise, Idaho; two step-sisters Sherri (Ron) Akers and Deanna (Donnie) Whitaker, both of Michigan. There are also grandchildren Dawson and Ava Stewart, Brooklyn Shelton, Kirsten and Greyson Mund, Cayden, Jessa, Brantly, Rilynn Shelton, and one on the way. There are also many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law Ed Moeller, step-mother-in-law Janice Moeller, mother-in-law Mary Ellen Moeller, brother-in-law Mike Moeller, Uncle “Jim” Shelton, Cousin Randy Turner.

Teresa L. Amos

Teresa L. Amos, 79, of Kokomo, peacefully passed away with her loving family by her side at 2:40 in the afternoon on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. She was born on December 15, 1936 in Kokomo to the late Edgebert and Ceotice (Snyder) Bourff. Teresa married Jack Amos on May 18, 1956. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and an extraordinary grandmother to her grandchildren, whom adoringly called her Mammy. She devoted her life to her husband, daughter and two grandchildren. Teresa was a homemaker, as well as responsible for managing the family’s rental properties and painting business alongside her husband, Jack.

Teresa graduated from Kokomo High School in 1954, where she enjoyed life-long friendships with a group of ladies who called themselves the “GIBS” – Girls Interested in Boys. Teresa enjoyed watching basketball, especially the Kokomo Wildkats. Teresa was a fifty-year member of Grace United Methodist Church, and she loved the Lord. Teresa enjoyed spending weekends at the family’s cottage on Lake Manitou, soaking up the sun and cooking bluegill caught by Jack. Teresa’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and helping with their daily activities. Teresa was an avid mall walker, which allowed her to enjoy her favorite past time of shopping. Jack lovingly referred to Teresa as “Queenie.” The couple adored each other and is now reunited in Heaven.

Teresa is survived by her daughter, Angela (James) Stamper of Kokomo; grandchildren, Alexis and Abram Stamper, both of Kokomo; siblings, Mark (Jerri) Bourff of Russiaville, and Rose “Dolly” (Ken) Janusz of Hugo, Minnesota; sister in-law, Helen Jean Humbert of Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Amos and siblings, Edgebert Bourff Jr., Paul Bourff, and Gert Titus.

Susan K. Skidmore

Susan Kay Skidmore, 60, left this life on Earth, Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016. She was born in Kokomo to Bobby R. Glassburn and Zonia R. (Smith) Glassburn. April 23, 1977, she married Art Skidmore in Kokomo, and he survives.

She graduated from Lewis Cass High School in 1973. Susan was a caregiver for 19 years with REM-Indiana, then later worked for OPG and Comfort Keepers. She showed kindness and compassion for all those she encountered and cared for. She enjoyed spending time with her best friend, Clara Kelly, her grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Mazee.

She is survived by her mother; her ex-husband and friend, Art; daughters, Lisa Skidmore, Kokomo, Jenny Short (fiance Chris Schwartz),Tipton; sister, Janet S. Lugenbeal (Gregory Mack), Kokomo; brothers, George R. Glassburn (Shirley), Cloverdale, and Joseph D. Glassburn (Linda), Young America; and many nieces, nephews, and two new great nephews that she loved dearly, Easton and Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her father.

She will be forever missed by all who loved her.

William

A. Whitehead

William Albert Whitehead, 89, Kokomo, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at his residence, in Kokomo. He was born on May 7, 1926 in Southern Tipton County, Indiana. He was the son of Lawrence “Peanut” and Elsie (Alexander) Whitehead.. Bill and his family moved to Sharpsville, IN in 1929 when he was three and was a very active boy growing up.

During his senior year he was selected to enter in a special program called the Army Air Core. After passing several tests and turning 18 he was then active duty in WWII after graduating Sharpsville School in 1944. His dream of becoming a pilot was not to be due to having all pilots they needed. He then worked in the office until 1945. After discharge Bill studied at DePauw University and graduated 1949 with his bachelors and master’s degree in education. Bill married Jennie Lee Emenhiser in 1952 and she preceded him in death

After DePauw he moved to South Dakota to run a business for a good friend’s father. In 1953 his first year teaching was at Curtisville School in Tipton County. He stayed only one year. He had been offered a job with Taylor Schools. He eventually went to the Sharpsville School and stayed until 1966. That summer he went back to Indiana University Bloomington to get his administrative license.

In the fall of 1966 he became the principal of Indian Heights School (Taylor Community Schools) where he finished out his career and retired in 1986. During the early years of teaching Bill and his brother-in-law Herk Barkley built and remodeled homes. He truly loved teaching, coaching and always said he had a great staff at Indian Heights. Upon retiring he had started doing some remodeling again so that he would fulfill his days once again.

In 2005 he retired from his carpentry business and started making cabinetry and furniture at home, which he enjoyed very much. In 2009 Bill had an accident and felt he should no longer do woodworking. Bill enjoyed entertaining and cooking for family and friends.

He is survived by his six children. Marsha (John Hodson) Whitehead, Mark Whitehead, Jill (Dexter) Marley, Jim (Jeni) Whitehead, Jayna (Edward) Whitehead and Joseph Whitehead (Steve Kressley). His grandchildren Leslie Whitehead, Blake (Amber) Johnson, Britney (Jake) King, Brandon Whitehead, Justin Whitehead, Jena Whitehead, Lexie Montes, Nick Hodson, John Vandorn, Tom Marley and 3 great grandchildren; sister Frances Mills of California and his brother-in-law Jim (Barb) Emenhiser.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sisters, Donna Mae Barkley, Anna Jean Henderson, and Jane Wallpe.

Ruth V. Campbell

Ruth V. Campbell, 91 passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 after a short illness. She was at Zionsville Meadows, Zionsville, IN. She received compassionate care from St. Vincent’s Hos-pice surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth was born in Jessamine County, KY in 1924, the fourth child of Clayton and Bessie Stafford. Her husband, Vernon, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sons, David (Kathy) Campbell, Florida, Dale (Phyllis) Campbell, Kokomo. Her grandchildren: David W (Angie) Campbell, Zionsville, IN, Jim Campbell, Bloomington, IN, Stacy (Greg) Barkley, Jason Campbell, Kokomo, IN. Her 5 great grandchildren: Ethan, Zachary and Jillian Campbell, Zionsville, IN, Dylan Barkley and Lucas Campbell of Kokomo. Also very important in her life were her favorite niece and nephew, Faye Lankford and Wayne Aubrey, both of Lexington, KY, Chrissanna Anderson, her caregiver for the past year, and her funny and faithful parrot, Max who could often be heard saying, “I love you Mammy!”.

Ruth, a long time Kokomo resident, moved here with Vernon following his WWII service. She attended Southside Christian Church and retired from Delco Electronics after 30 years.

She was always a proud but humble, hard-working, independent and loving woman.

Francisco “Frank” Ermitanio, 79 of Kokomo passed away at 1:17 am on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Community Howard Regional Hospital. He was born on June 5, 1936 in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines to Teofilo C. and Salvasion (Samaniego) Ermitanio

Frank was a graduate of Boys High School and from the Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines. He retired construction builder and was a faithful Catholic.

Survivors include his two sons Francisco Ermitanio Jr., Arnel Ermitanio; two daughters Caroline Fleming, Annebelle Santiago two sisters Irene Refugia and Lourdes; special friend and care giver Nancy Cheever; special friends Paulette Bailey, Judy Evans.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents Teofilo C. and Salvasion Ermitanio and three brothers.

Jane E. Short

Jane Ellen Short, 65, Kokomo, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Community North Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born October 26, 1950 in Elwood, IN to Lowell Wayne and Frances Elizabeth (Philpott) Lineback. Jane was married to Jimmy Keith Short who preceded her in death on August 30, 1992.

Jane was employed by the City of Kokomo as a dispatcher where she served both the police and fire departments. She will be remembered for her love of animals and great sense of humor. Most of all Jane loved her family and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her mother, Frances Lineback; son, Jared Short; grandson, Gregory Short; siblings, Kathryn (Jerry) Burtcher, Jon Lowell (Diane) Lineback and Kurt (Kandy) Lineback; nieces, Susan, Melissa, Katie, Rebekah, Alexa and Addie; as well as several great-nieces and nephew.

Janiece F. Addison

Janiece Fay Addison, 88, died February 3rd at Kindred Transitional Care. She was born on August 11, 1927 in Kokomo to Joseph E. and Bertie Jane (Walters) Massey.

Janiece was a longtime member of Southside Apostolic Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She was devoted to her family, church and Pastor. Janiece was also a big fan of fishing, and was considered by many to be the best fisher around. Janiece also enjoyed crocheting, and made many afghans.

Janiece is survived by her sons: Frank Ray of Mt. Home, Arkansas, James Harrington of Peoria, IL; daughter: Vickie Horne of Kokomo; twin sister, Berniece; stepson, George Addison, Jr. of Knoxville, TN; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Richard J. Curran

Richard J. “Dick” Curran, 88, of Kokomo, passed away at 8:15 AM Tuesday February 2, 2016 at his residence. Born March 6, 1927 in Mishawaka, Indiana, he was the son of the late Albert Curran and Esther (Woollett) Curran. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. On April 8, 1971 in Indianapolis, he married Dorothy Blanche (Waggoner), and she survives. He was a pipefitter for Delco Electronics for 31 ½ years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Church of One Accord, Napthali Masonic Lodge #389 F&AM, Past Patron Eastern Star, VFW Post #1152, Life member of American Legion Post No.6, 40 & 8, D.A.V., and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Blanche Curran of Kokomo; one son Thomas (Debra) Curran of Burke, Virginia; one step-son Ron Whitsett of Kokomo; one brother Robert (Barbara) Curran of South Bend, Indiana. There are also grandchildren Heidi (Kenny) Vint, Samantha (Dan) Runge, Brian Curran, Erin Curran; great grandchildren Denise Runge, Hayden Vint, Ciara Bright, and Madeline Vint. There are also several nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Herbert Curran; also four sisters Ruth, Marie, Margaret, and Virginia.

David J. Solomon

David James Solomon, 46 of 8500 County Road 312, Terrell, Texas and formerly of Argos, Indiana died on January 31, 2016 at 3:19 p.m. from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Forney, Texas. He was born on April 28, 1969 in Plymouth, Indiana to Everett “Bud” Solomon and Bonnie (Fishburn) Solomon.

David had lived in Texas for the past several years, coming from Argos, Indiana.

On December 23, 1989 in Plymouth, Indiana he married Jennifer L. White, later they divorced.

David was a Vet-Tech Driver for Spay Neuter Network in Crandall, Texas, and was a graduate of Argos High School with the class of 1987.

David is survived by his Daughters – Ashley R. Fout and husband Kody of Akron, Indiana; and Amber L. Solomon of Kokomo, Indiana

Son – Austin J. Solomon of Kokomo, Indiana

Mother – Bonnie Solomon of Argos, Indiana

Sisters – Sheila Beers and husband Barney of Argos, Indiana; and Lou Ann Norman and husband Lee of Terrell, Texas

James S. Freeman

James S. Freeman, 83, Kokomo, passed away on February 4, 2016, at Northwoods Village in Kokomo. He was born on January 9, 1933, in Bloomington, IN, the son of Emil J. & Lucille (Thacker) Freeman. On April 3, 1955, he married Marilyn L. Ellison and she preceded him in death on September 29, 2013.

James served in the United States Navy from 1951~1955. He served on the USS Pollux in Korea and Japan War, he also served on an Ice Breaker ship to Alaska, and on an ammunition ship called the USS Chara in Korea. James retired on March 1, 1992, from Delco Radio after 30 years of service. He had previously worked for several different construction companies including Holtz Construction. Following his retirement, he worked for Shirley & Stout Funeral Home as a funeral attendant. James was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, UAW Local 292 and the American Legion.

James is survived by his sons, Jeffery (Pam) Freeman, Kokomo, Brian (Cindy) Freeman, Alexandria, IN and Michael (Lisa) Freeman, Loveland, OH; nine grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Norma Richardson, Shelbyville, IN, Violet (Kenny) Stancombe, Morris Town, IN, and Nancy (Larry) Duncan, Kokomo.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marilyn Freeman, and a brother, Emil Freeman, Jr.

Richard E. Arnold

Richard E. Arnold, 65 of Windfall died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Tipton on January 27, 1951 to Ed and Mary (Ray) Arnold. Richard married Vivian “Cindy” Smith on August 14, 1982 and she survives.

Richard had worked for Lorentson Manufacturing in Kokomo for 29 years, retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Windfall Christian Church. Richard loved anything that had to do with sports, especially fishing, NASCAR racing, basketball, baseball and football. Mostly he loved his children and grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife Cindy of Windfall, a daughter Erin Arnold (Tommy Lyssy) and a son Joe Arnold, both of Texas, grandchildren Alex and Ethan Arnold, and a sister Martha Johnson and husband Leland of Greentown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bob Arnold and a nephew William Arnold.

Eleanor A. Irwin

Eleanor Alvina Irwin passed away peacefully at home at 9:15 pm on February 3, 2016. Eleanor was born May 5, 1924 to Millard & Martha (Ireland) Roller in Idaville, IN. She was the 5th child of 7. Eleanor grew up on farms in Miami, Cass and White counties.

Eleanor graduated high school from Deedsville School. She then moved to Kokomo with a friend to take some classes at IUK and to seek employment at Delco Radio. She retired from Delco Electronics in 1986 after over 30 years of service. Eleanor loved to garden and share all the bounty with family. She also loved flowers, was a very avid reader, working crossword puzzles, always striving to improve her spiritual path in Eckancar. She loved her family most of all.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Steven Turner (Candy Flynn), Dana Bolinger (Don Nesvig) and Lisa Bandelier (Bill); step-son, Dick Irwin and step-daughter, Janice Sprong (Moe); brothers, Marlin Roller and Meredith Roller, both of Peru; grandchildren, Brett Bolinger (Syndy), Stephenie Phillips (Paul), Tracy Hummel and Jake Bandelier (La Tasha); step grandchildren, Bart Irwin, (Nicole), Michelle Irwin, Kacy Irwin; great- grandchildren, Danielle Bolinger, Maggie Phillips, Asher, Avichayil, Eliana, and Caleb Hummel, and Hazel Mae Bandelier; step great-grandchildren, Payton and Kylie Irwin, Ariel and Michaelah Freels, and many nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Jack Turner, second husband, James E. Irwin, sisters, Eva Grostefon and Louise Bushman, brothers, Norman Roller and Eugene Roller, step children, Judy, Pat, Norma and Jim.

Betty J. Grant

Betty Joan Grant, 82, Kokomo, passed away at 5:35pm, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Waterford Place Health Campus. She was born April 27, 1933, in Kokomo, to Max Delno Kennedy and Naomi Fern (Anderson) Kennedy. On December 2, 1951, in Kokomo, she married Arthur Wayne Grant. He preceded her in death on January 27, 2011. She graduated from Kokomo High School. She was a secretary for Indian Heights School and retired in 1978. She was a member of the Widow’s Cub of Kokomo. Joan enjoyed square dancing and Swedish weaving.

Survivors include, a son, Steve Grant and wife Janice Paperny of Orlando, Florida; daughter, Dee Ann and husband Ron McGahen of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Jordan Grant of Portland, Oregon; grandson, Peter Grant of Birmingham, Alabama; brother, Delno and wife Marcia Kennedy of Kokomo; brother, Bob and wife Kathy Kennedy of Kokomo; sister, Pat Shafer of Avon; sister, Kay and husband Dan Tharp of Kokomo.

She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Melinda K. Weaver

Melinda K. Weaver, 59, of Kokomo passed away at 1:20 pm on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Community Howard Regional Hospital. She was born on September 2 1956 in Beech Grove, IN to George C. Miller Sr. and Bonnie J. (Pullen) Miller. Melinda was married to Charles R. Weaver and he passed away in 2015.

Melinda was a Haworth High School graduate and worked for Kroger in the bakery and was a clerk at Speedway. She loved to play Bingo, be with her family, spending time outside and watching NFL football games.

Survivors include her daughter Shannon (Travis) Young of Russiaville; son Cody Weaver of Kokomo; two sister Ronda Miller, Denise Burns; two brothers George C. “Sonny” Miller Jr., Lyle (Nancy) Miller; two grandchildren Kaytlyn Young, Nora Young.

Melinda was preceded in death by her parents George and Bonnie Miller; former husband Charles Weaver; one brother Jeff Miller.
