Elaine H.

Beckman

Elaine Helene Beckman, 92, Kokomo, was called to her heavenly home at 8:30 pm on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at her home. Elaine was born on February 11, 1923, in West Frankfort, IL. She was one of eight children born to Michael and Mary (Klem) Haloski. On September 20, 1947, in Chicago, she married Robert G. Beckman, whom she met on a blind date!!

Elaine was employed by Motorola while living in Chicago prior to her marriage. Soon after marriage the Beckmans began living in Kokomo, where their two daughters where born. She was a church secretary at St. Andrew’s, and later worked at Indiana University Kokomo in the bookstore, becoming textbook manager. She greatly enjoyed the staff, students, and ordering books as part of her position there. Elaine retired in 1993 from IUK, but retrained membership in RIPEA. In addition, she was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Kokomo, including participation in St. Anne’s Guild.

Elaine loved to cook and sew. Her specialty was cookies—she annually made nearly 30 different kinds each Christmas season until recently. Elaine’s generosity was well known as she always made cookie trays for family and friends. She frequently made donations whenever a need arose.

She was also an accomplished artist, preferring pastels over paint and oil. Elaine had a unique talent in that she was able to reproduce nearly identical artwork from pictures or photographs. She enjoyed a daily challenge of completing crossword puzzles, and continued to collect recipes until her death.

She enjoyed travel, as in family summer vacations or later on with groups. Elaine went to Europe with Debbie to attend a conference and loved visiting several countries. She also made trips to see her beloved grandchildren, and went with travel groups across the country and to nearby states. Elaine was dearly loved by her family.
