Eva Sue Sharber, age 76, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Saint Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. She was born in Etowah, TN on August 21, 1939 to Clarence and Stella Newman. On December 24, 1956 Eva Sue married James L. Sharber at his mother‘s house in Maryville, TN.

A loving note from Eva’s husband written the evening she passed away:

We have been married 59 years. Our first flirt was in 1954 in the church yard. For our first date we went to church with her Mom in tow and church was the only place we went. We were married on December 24, 1956 without the blessing her Dad, he did not come to the wedding. I won him over though; he thought the sun set and rose on my head. We didn’t have enough money to get a license; our Mom’s paid for them.

I was in the Army so our first two years we didn’t have much time together. We had our first daughter in 1959, a pretty little blonde head we named Angela Rose, and then came Peggy, Mike, and Pam. God blessed our lives with our kids that Eva loved with a passion; there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her kids. She gave one of her kidneys to Angie; she was so unselfish and had a lot of friends.

All of Windfall knew her. She worked at the grocery store; she was such a nice lady. She left that job and went to GTE on 31 and it was there she had a heart attack but she recovered from that.

She was a good wife, one a husband could be proud of. She never disappointed me. She loved her grand-kids and great grand-kids. She had six grand-kids and 10 great grand-kids. She was a funny person. When she saw gas was cheap she would tell me to “tip it up” instead of top it off. I came home one day and she told me the girls were calling her brown toes…I told her they were calling her a brown nose! She loved to shop at Walmart, she would get a motorized scooter and she was in Heaven on earth. She always spent her money on others instead of herself. She loved the church and was faithful even when she didn’t feel good, a perfect wife for a preacher. She played the piano for years until she couldn’t move around as much. She was my biggest supporter. She loved to hear her grand-kids sing; it just delighted and blessed her. She liked to make things for everybody.

As I held her little hand I thought, to be so little how in real life no one could be any bigger. These hands loved me, these hands took care of me when I was sick, these hands raised our children, these hands fed me and mine, these hands praised her Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Your family and all your friends love you very much. Our love passed a few minutes ago. She just spread her wings and flew away. She went peacefully, God has another resident tonight. Heavens gain.

Love you Mom,

Dad and family

Sue was a member of the Center Grove Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer for 25 years. She also taught Sunday School and was the church pianist. Her work history includes the Great Little Food Store in Windfall, GTE in Westfield, and retired from Conseco Aramark in 2000.

In her spare time she enjoyed crafting, computers, taking and collecting pictures and most importantly partaking in “retail therapy” mainly at Walmart. She collected sales receipts from every Walmart she visited, state by state.

Eva Sue was a housewife, a loving mother, grand mother, great grand mother and she devoutly studied her Bible.

Survivors include her husband, James Sharber, her children; Peggy Ann Brumley, Michael Ray Sharber, Pamela Sue (Scot) Reeder, her grandchildren; Julie (Kim) Ridenour, Lynne (Marc Hollingsworth) Hamilton, Josh (Carly) Sharber, Kirsten Reeder, Brayden Reeder, and Matthew Pasley, Also surviving are her great grandchildren; Alayna Ridenour, Abren Ridenour, Corissa Hamilton, Dakota Lawson, Dravin Lawson, Tarren Lawson, and Gabriel Pasley.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Angela Rose Doyle, two grandchildren; Meagan Sharber and James Hamilton, a great grand daughter, Ava Ridenour, and a brother William “Bud” Newman.
