Two Kokomo residents were charged yesterday with felony-level crimes after allegedly molesting two young boys.
The Howard County Prosecutor’s Office leveled two charges of child molesting, level 1 felonies; and two charges of incest, level 4 felonies; against Sherry Bozeman, 31, yesterday in relation to the alleged incidents. Similarly, prosecutors charged 27-year-old Christopher Keefer, who according to court documents is an ex-boyfriend of Bozeman, with two counts of child molesting, level 1 felonies; and one class A misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement in the same case.
According to court documents, the charges stemmed from the pair jointly engaging in sexual activity with two boys, ages 3 and 6.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on Sunday officers were dispatched to a home on the 600 block of North McCann Street in reference to a possible child molestation in progress. When officers arrived, a man ran from the residence, and a pursuit ensued. Once apprehended, the man was identified as Keefer.
While at the residence the officers spoke to two females, one of whom told officers she had been contacted via Facebook the night prior. In the online messages, the woman said Keefer admitted that he and Bozeman had molested the two boys.
The woman told officers “she was friends with Sherry Bozeman and Chris Keefer. She said Chris Keefer contacted her by Facebook messenger last night because he and Sherry broke up. During the conversation, Keefer said he wanted to tell her the truth about everything.”
The probable cause affidavit then listed the messages Keefer allegedly sent to the woman, claiming that he and Bozeman were “high on meth” before beginning to engage in sexual activity together while the children were in the room. Eventually, the sexual activity allegedly involved the children and is detailed in the messages sent online.
A second event allegedly transpired in the children’s’ bedroom that involved Bozeman, Keefer, and the juveniles. It also is detailed in the online messages shared with the woman online.
Keefer ended the online messages with, “That’s the whole truth so help me god.”
According to the probable cause affidavit, a detective attempted to interview Keefer, who requested an attorney. The detective then interviewed Bozeman, asking her about the messages Keefer sent online.
“She stated she didn’t remember anything like that happening,” read the affidavit. “She stated she remembered Chris bringing meth to her house, and they each snorted two lines. She said she went into the bedroom with Chris to have sex with him, but she blacked out and doesn’t remember anything else.
Detectives allegedly continued to question Bozeman, and she “eventually admitted she lied.”
She then told officers about the molestation, according to court documents.
Both Keefer and Bozeman remain in Howard County jail on $50,000 bonds.
