Following November’s successful Pitch in for Youth, the Joe and Katie Thatcher Endowment Foundation brought forth the proceeds of the event to be presented to the Sagamore Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Community Foundation of Howard County.
Katie Thatcher presented a check for $18,001 to Hilda Burns, president of the Community Foundation of Howard County and Chris Mehaffey of Boy Scouts of America on March 13.
Joe Thatcher currently is going through spring training for the Arizona Diamondbacks, with opening day right around the corner. Thatcher began the foundation almost six years ago, wanting to give back to the community he was born and raised in.
Joe, Katie, and his parents, Phil and Sarah Thatcher, began holding the charity dinner that included a silent and live auction, and a notable guest speaker. Over the past five years, the event has grown into an event not to miss.
“The way that [Pitch in for Youth] has taken off has been outstanding, and we are grateful for everything everybody does to help out and give back,” said Joe. “It was something I needed to do personally, give back to the community.”
