The Kokomo Rescue Mission is preparing for the extremely high temperatures in the forecast for Thursday, July 18, through Sunday, July 11, by opening its dining room as a cooling center.
The residential living and emergency shelter is open 24 hours each day as usual. For anyone who needs shelter from the heat, the dining room will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gatorade and cold water will be available to those who come to the dining room, located at 321 W. Mulberry St.
The dining room will be serving meals daily at the regular times of 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Kokomo Rescue Mission’s men’s and women’s shelters do have open beds for those needing overnight shelter. Men can check in after 4 p.m. Women and children, please contact the mission at 765-456-3838.
