The Kokomo Police Department is investigating after responding to an armed robbery last night with shots fired.
Around 10:22 p.m. officers of the Kokomo Police Department responded to the 300 block of North Berkley Street in reference to an armed robbery with shots fired. Dispatch advised that a home owner in the 400 block of North Berkley Road had an individual at gunpoint. Upon officer’s arrival, they made contact with the homeowner and an individual who was identified as Austin Purnell, 24, of Kokomo.
Purnell told investigators that he was at a friend’s residence in the 300 block of North Berkley Street when he was confronted by three armed black males, standing between 5’7” to 6’0”, wearing masks, gloves, and hoodies. Purnell stated the suspects forced him into his friend’s residence where they took an undisclosed amount of US currency, phones, and other personal items.
Purnell told investigators that he fled from the scene and heard several gunshots as he ran to a neighbor’s residence for help. No one was injured during the armed robbery.
