The Kokomo Perspective is celebrating its 30th anniversary by giving a birthday present to our readers: a new, user-friendly, free mobile app available for download for iOS and Android devices.

The app allows readers to easily access continually-updated news, weather, crime, sports, features, and obituaries from Howard County. Users can opt-in for breaking news alerts to never miss out on what’s going on locally and easily share and save content.

The mobile app is designed to make staying current with local news a quick, simple, and interactive experience.

The app also marks a stark contrast from how news was received in 1989, the year Publisher Emeritus Don Wilson started the Kokomo Perspective. At that time, the internet had yet to become mainstream, and readers waited until the paper came out every week to find out what was going on in Howard County.

With the advent of the internet and subsequent introduction of smartphones and social media, readers today have countless ways of accessing news.

The Perspective has kept up with these innovations over the past three decades, growing its mobile-friendly website to boasting 3.3 million page views last year and maintaining strong followings on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The app, we felt, was a much-needed tool for 21st century readers.

With all of these tools, news is accessible much more than once a week with the print edition of the Kokomo Perspective, and our staff works to capitalize on this. New stories are added to our website — and now the app — daily, and our Facebook page continues to be a place where readers interact, converse, and share their thoughts on the stories we bring to you.

As we celebrate our 30th birthday, we thank all of our readers and advertisers for making it possible.

To download the app, visit the Apple or Google Play store and search “Kokomo Perspective.”
