KOKOMO - Indiana Health Center (IHC) Kokomo center, located at 3118 S. Lafountain Street in Kokomo, Ind., was recently honored with a Star Performer Award from MDwise, Indiana's only nonprofit health insurance company focused on serving uninsured and underserved Hoosiers. The office received this recognition for going above and beyond to provide high levels of quality and service to patients.

"IHC Kokomo is a wonderful representation of the quality service our provider offices give their communities and we are proud to have a partnership with them," said Caroline Carney Doebbeling, chief medical officer of MDwise. "The Star Performer Award allows us to recognize the providers in our network who go above and beyond to provide a high level of service to our members."

For more than 30 years, Indiana Health Centers (IHC) at Kokomo has provided a one-stop medical home for patients. With 50 employees, the board-certified doctors, dentist, nurse practitioners, nurses, dental hygienist, dental assistants, social workers and support staff serve more than 7,000 patients each year. The community health center provides a range of primary medical and pediatric care, dental services, a Women Infants and Children (WIC) program for new mothers and babies, extensive social services, a medication program, and an on-site lab. The WIC program serves about 2,500 clients. In addition to direct care, disease prevention, early intervention, rehabilitation, and health education are emphasized. IHC Kokomo's focus is the underserved, uninsured and under-insured in Kokomo, Howard County and surrounding areas. Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance are accepted, and all services are provided on a sliding fee scale. Transportation vouchers are also offered to patients to make office visits more convenient.

MDwise sought out specific criteria when selecting the Star Performer honorees, including achieving measures of clinical performance, best practice implementation, patient outreach and compassion. Also important was having a shared passion for quality throughout the office.

To further recognize the hard work of these individuals, MDwise has launched web pages that feature interviews with staff from each honored office. To read those interviews, go to MDwise.org/starperformers<</span>http://www.mdwise.org/starperformers/>.
