21st annual Greatest Spectacle in Tasting gears up

Every May, racing fans make their way to Indianapolis for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. In Kokomo, tasting fans make their way to the grounds of Bona Vista for the Greatest Spectacle in Tasting, a fund raiser put on by Soupley’s to benefit Bona Vista.

Letter carriers Stamp Out Hunger May 9

Summer Place Car Show

Summer Place, “a real ‘50s town” is having its 13th annual Car Show on May 23. The proceeds benefit “A Home for Every Child Foundation.” Trophies to be awarded are Top 25, Best Paint, Best Engine, and Best Interior. T-shirts will be given to all pre-registered entries and dash plaques given to the first 200 car entries. Spectator admission is $5 per person (and tax deductible). Children under 12 are free. Car show pre-registration fee is $15 and includes a free T-shirt and admission to Summer Place. Day of show registration fee is $15 (does not include T-shirt). Pre-registration entries must be postmarked by May 9. All car show entries receive free admission to Summer Place. Psi Iota Xi makes donation to library

Psi Iota Xi sorority donated $2,000 to Kokomo-Howard County Public Library Main last Wednesday. The local chapter, Kappa Chapter, donated $1,000 to go to books, and the national chapter donated $1,000 from its rotating grant to go for the purchase of a new interactive learn-and-play station.

78th annual Cheer Guild Ball took on James Bond theme

CHEER GUILD — The crowd came dressed to kill for the 78th annual Cheer Guild Ball this past Saturday at the Kokomo Country Club. This year’s event took on a James Bond 007 theme. A Hollywood walk-of-fame welcomed the guests, who each had their name on a star, to the event that featured a mock casino, a murder mystery dinner, and live entertainment by The Flying Toasters. Funds raised from the casino portion of the event will benefit the services departments at St. Joseph Hospital and Community Howard Regional Health, while the funds from the live auction will go to the hospitals to be used for the purchase of new medical equipment. This year’s event raised more than $75,000.

Birthing center receives advanced cardiac training

Even with the best prenatal care, accidents happen and illness can still occur during pregnancy. It is no secret in the world of obstetrics that patients are getting sicker. Because of increased risks of pregnancy, Community Howard Regional Health (CHRH) has added an advanced cardiac life support course for obstetrical patients (ACLS-OB) to their Birthing Center education curriculum.

Four robotics teams from Kokomo area competed in World Championships

The mood was electric at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis as 600 FIRST Robotics Teams from around the world gathered to compete for the honor of World Champions! Four teams from the Kokomo area, were joined by 10 other Indiana teams competing at the four day event. After 887 qualifying matches, in 8 divisions, the Iron Kings from Lewis Cass ranked 22 of 76 teams in the Carver division, Kokomo’s TechnoKats ranked 38 of 76 teams in the Galileo division, PantherTech from Western ranked 41 of 76 in the Tesla division, and Northwestern’s CyberTooth ranked 53 of 76 teams in the Newton division. In spite of the teams’ competitive performance on the field, only CyberTooth was selected as part of an alliance to compete in the Playoff Matches and advanced to the semi-finals.
